I'm trying to replace the standard wordpress logo-ghost.png. The original ghost just won't go away! I created a new logo-ghost.png of the same dimensions as the original and replaced the original in the folder wp-admin/images. I've refreshed and refreshed and cleared cache and the original persists! I have a multisite if that makes a difference.

What browser are you using (and have you tried a different browser)?
In Chrome, I sometimes have to view the changed file directly in order for the change to become evident.

I've tried Firefox and IE. What do you mean by "I sometimes have to view the changed file directly in order for the change to become evident."
Kailey Lampert comments:
By viewing the file directly, I mean navigating to the file in the browser, e.g. http://domain.com/wp-admin/images/logo-ghost.png
When/where does logo-ghost.png get used? At a glance I don't see it.
Kathy Goss comments:
logo-ghost is the wordpress "W" logo on the upper left of the dashboard.
Kailey Lampert comments:
I think I found the problem - The small logo you see next to the site title is actually wp-logo.png (/wp-admin/images/wp-logo.png)
Kathy Goss comments:
Also, I can view the file directly.

Bingo! Thank you so much. I guess I was following an out-of-date on-line tutorial for the replacement and as Navjot Singh mentions below, logo-ghost isn't being used anymore.
Navjot Singh answers:
logo-ghost.png is not used anymore in any css file loaded for wp-admin. That's why even when you replace it, its not making any affect. Kailey is correct. The logo comes from wp-admin/images/wp-logo.png.
