WordPress trying to upload to parent directory on old sever. WordPress

  • SOLVED

We moved servers earlier this week, all seemed to have gone OK.

However when I try to load a new WordPress theme, I get the message

<blockquote>Unable to create directory /var/www/htdocs/ifdnrg_sites/www.burstradio.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2012/09. Is its parent directory writable by the server?</blockquote>

ifdnrg is the old server. However I'm pretty sure I'm looking at the site on the new server.

If any of you could help with this I'd be really grateful, thanks :)

Hey Martin,

Brilliant, this seems to be pointing in the right direction, thanks. I'll have a go and see if it works.

I'll let you know ...

Rebecca Brueton comments:

Yay, it worked, thank you so much!

I have two days to get this website ready for relaunch (student radio station) and that was a serious spanner in the works!!

Just in case it's useful info / you happen to come across this one again, that article was great, but I assume it refers to an old version of WP as it says the upload URL is under settings> miscellaneous but I found it under settings>media.

Thanks again, I'm going to stop panicking now and go play with my new theme! :)

Call me crazy but I don't think this is a permissions issue.

Have you checked your Dashboard:Settings:Media to make sure you don't have the uploads directory set to the OLD SERVER?

Rebecca Brueton comments:

Hey Jim,

Thanks, spot on, Martin's article above explained it. :)

You need to log into your FTP and make sure that the folder: /wp-content/uploads/ is writeable.

If you don't know how to do this I can for you, am reachable by skype: flashpunkca

Thanks for the reply :)

But will this work, seeing as the folder it is trying to write to is on the old server?

I don't want to write to that folder at all.
It's trying to write to /var/www/htdocs/ifdnrg_sites/www.burstradio.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2012/09)

I want to write to the equivalent folder on Web Faction, the new host.

Why's it still trying to write to the old one? (Or have I misunderstood something here?!)

Michael Caputo comments:

Generally the error message is produced from the server that the installation is currently on, so it sounds like you're still looking at the old server environment.

Rebecca Brueton comments:

Definitely the new server :) Martin got it below.
