Technical help on my website WordPress

  • SOLVED

I was wondering if you can help me.

I have created a website called www.motherhooddiaries.com, which is an online diary designed to take current/expecting mothers along a journey through the highs and lows of pregnancy, childbirth and motherhood. The idea is for mums to register either their due date or baby's birth date and receive emails relevant to where they are at currently.

I use Wordpress 3.0.5 to help build my site and was wondering whether you could kindly advise me as to how you create the html code to make this happen or perhaps a plugin that may be of use?

Other problems I have at the moment are:

∙ I have been told that when people register, they do not receive any notifications of their registration. Is there anything I can do to change this? I also want to change the look and feel of the registration and login page, but, again, not sure how to do this (I am still quite useless at Wordpress, but I am learning slowly but surely) ☺

∙ Secondly, I wanted to create a newsletter to send to all registered users. Do you happen to know any useful programs that can help with creating a nice newsletter?

If you could be of any help to me, I would be eternally helpful.

I appreciate you are busy and so any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks in advance and I wish you all the best

Hi Leyla

Have you checked that email is working? On a Windows server you need to do some extra to get WP sending emails - could be that.

Look at MailChimp for the newsletter - excellent (free!) service and several nice plugins to help you integrate.

John

Hi there

Thanks for your reply. I heard about MailChimp, but wasn't sure whether there was a plugin better than that one.

The real question is how do I tweak Wordpress so that users automatically receive relevant emails relating to their due date/baby's birth date.

Thanks Leyla

John Cotton comments:

Sorry, I misread the question - I thought they weren't getting an email after registration.

MailChimp is great and could do your auto-email too:

Sorry John, you haven't misread the question at all.

Thank you for MailChimp. Do you know if the link you sent me works for anything other than birthdays?

What i meant by the real question is that I want users at registration to be able to add their baby's birth date or their pregnancy due date, so they automatically receive a thank you for registering and then afterwards automatically receive emails relating to how old their babies are or how many weeks pregnant they are. For example, I gave birth to my son on 19 December 2010. So I would like to receive an email Sunday 19 February 2011 relating to a blog talking about my baby at 9 weeks old. Or if i was due to be 9 weeks pregnant on sunday i would like to receive an email relating to that week of pregnancy.

Thanks so much

John Cotton comments:

It'll work for any date based email!

And you could set up multiple versions to send emails at at birth, 9 weeks, 12 weeks, 6 months etc. You could even customise to send different emails for those with boys to those with girls... or twins, or quads, or children who don't do their homework, or won't do their piano practice...sorry I was drifting...

Collect whatever data you need at sign-up, set up corresponding MailChimp fields and then you're away!

Fantastic John, thank you. I'll give it a shot and get back to you :-)

One more teeny tiny thing before i post you as a winner.

How can i customise the registration plug in to ask these questions and integrate them into MailChimp? and am i able to ask existing registered users to input their date into the screen they registered with at startup?

Lol does that even make sense?

John Cotton comments:

Well, that's really another question....:)

But this plug-in will do most of the work for you.

If you have the info for existing subscribers, MailChimp will let you import those into your list.

I've already added that plugin. Doesn't seem to be making a difference
