Reinstalled site @ root level; site intact, but permalinks broken WordPress

I know "just enough to be dangerous" here. I moved my site from a directory to the root (using iThemes BackupBuddy). Everything seems to have arrived intact. However, I can't get my permalinks to work. Perhaps it has something to do with .htaccess (I don't think I have such a file)?

Help!

You should have an .htaccess file, but if you don't that may be the problem. Re-saving permalinks should create one if it's missing.

If that doesn't work, I'd be happy to take a look if you can give me the ftp details.

I tried re-saving wp-admin/options-permalink.php, with Custom Structure selected and completed thus:
