Proper SEO... Looking for advice WordPress

I have a product line that consists of mainly 6 products. 5 of which are the same classification, a pool/billiard chalk holder.

The thing with these products is the variations that are available.

With 1 product alone I have 3 different colors of leather, 2 different accents (8ball or 9ball) and 3 different handle variations. If you do the math that's about 18 different products. Now if I throw in the fact that we can make them with 5 different colored stitching, you've got close to 100 variations of the same product.

I also have a retractable style chalker that is personalized with different decals.

The problem I'm having is that my site, pocketchalker.com, built on OpenCart, got nailed for duplicate content because all the products have pretty much the same description. I don't want to add 1 product with 100 different variation options, I'd like to add individual items, or smaller groups. ie. Black leather that is given 2 options, accents and handle colors. It's pretty hard to write 100 different product descriptions for the same product.

What is the best way to build out a product line of this nature for SEO purposes?

ps. I'm working trying to get away from OpenCart and working with WP and WooCommerce. I'm also familiar with Yoast's plugins.

In Woocommerce you can use tags to add the diferent word for each product, and with SEO plugin from Yoast's you can make a good implementation of each product to be ready for indexing. Im using woocommerce and yoast on aliensurface.ro and i have 1 product but with 500 variations(phone models) and is indexed verry well on google. If you need a particular help let me know i will send you the skype id on PM

Happy new year,

So if i understand this correctly, you have the same product with the same description throughout the site but you are using tags to tell Google that they are different products? Would product attributes do the same thing?

I'm up for a skype chat on the subject. Skype name 'pocketchalker'

Balanean Corneliu comments:

First time i was made the description identical because is the same product, but i have diferent title intro because is for diferent models of phones.
Ex. Name of the phone 1 + protection foil HD
Name of the phone 2 + protection foil HD(weare protection foil HD remain the same on all products)

After this To have green on the yoast's plugin i have copy/past the title under the description text, and i have setup this title like keywords prefered for that phone model.

To be indexed from variation of name like Galaxy Note 3 or Galaxy Note III i have used tha tags.

And yes the variation from variable products are indexable.
Let talk more on skype.

See you theare.

Just Me answers:

Hi, I use Shopp for my webshop, which used to cost some money but can be downloaded for free now from WordPress.org.

It handles variations pretty well.
Why don't you want to add one product with 100 variations?
In Shopp you just set the different variations, and their values, and Shopp combines them for you.
Not sure that is different from how other shop software handle variations as I am not familiar with those.

Regards

Doug Montgomery comments:

Don't know anything about Shopp but I did a lot of research before I went with WooCommerce. Not keen on learning a new ecommerce platform.

I don't want to do 1 product with 100 variations because I'd like to also do a gallery of products.

Bob answers:

You can try something like this.

create 18 products[3*2*3](3 different colors of leather, 2 different accents (8ball or 9ball) and 3 different handle variations).

In title use all the above variations.
Example: pool/billiard chalk holder(color,8ball,handle type)

Then add stitching color as variation to each product.

In this way you will have multiple products but not too many. As well as you will have different titles. Add same variation data in your description of product so you will not have same description for all product.

If you are using v 1.5x, in the products list in admin just click the checkbox and click on "copy" at the top. It duplicates the product with all options, etc. inserting it as a "disabled" product. Then you can just edit it and enable it.
