Modifying wp_bootstrap_navwalker to work as a mega menu WordPress

I'm working on a website currently and have been using the wp_bootstrap_navwalker class in order to automatically generate the menu for the website.

It's a pretty large site and so I wanted to simplify the navigation by having a mega menu.

The menu is currently like this:

Home | Service 1 (drop down to show children) | Service 2 (drop down to show children) etc

I'd rather it be similar to this:

Home | Services

Service 1 Service 2

Children Children

I'm looking to modify the walker class but I can't work it out. Ideally I'd like to have services as a custom link in my menu back-end and then have service 1 as a heading and link and then the children pages under that. Ideally with each service and children as a new column.

The code for the nav walker class is as follows:

class wp_bootstrap_navwalker extends Walker_Nav_Menu {
/**
* @see Walker::start_lvl()
* @since 3.0.0
*
* @param string $output Passed by reference. Used to append additional content.
* @param int $depth Depth of page. Used for padding.
*/
public function start_lvl( &$output, $depth = 0, $args = array() ) {
$indent = str_repeat( "\t", $depth );
$output .= "\n$indent<ul role=\"menu\" class=\" dropdown-menu\">\n";
}
/**
* @see Walker::start_el()
* @since 3.0.0
*
* @param string $output Passed by reference. Used to append additional content.
* @param object $item Menu item data object.
* @param int $depth Depth of menu item. Used for padding.
* @param int $current_page Menu item ID.
* @param object $args
*/
public function start_el( &$output, $item, $depth = 0, $args = array(), $id = 0 ) {
$indent = ( $depth ) ? str_repeat( "\t", $depth ) : '';
/**
* Dividers, Headers or Disabled

* Determine whether the item is a Divider, Header, Disabled or regular
* menu item. To prevent errors we use the strcasecmp() function to so a
* comparison that is not case sensitive. The strcasecmp() function returns

if ( strcasecmp( $item->attr_title, 'divider' ) == 0 && $depth === 1 ) {

dimadin answers:

1) Is this class after you have modified it to meet your needs or before?

2) I am not sure that I understand how your menu should look like, lets try:

- row 1: items Home, Services
- row 2: items Service 1, Service 2
- row 3: items Children, Children

In other words, no any form of dropdown, everything is shown immediately.

sebdean comments:

Hi, correct in terms of structure but I'd like mega menu to be as a drop down.

sebdean comments:

This is the class before modified

Rempty answers:

I made the modifications, this is for 2 columns, max 3 with some additions,
Need this css

<style>
.dropdown-menu {
min-width: 200px;
}
.dropdown-menu.columns-2 {
min-width: 400px;
}
.dropdown-menu.columns-3 {
min-width: 600px;
}
.dropdown-menu li a {
padding: 5px 15px;
font-weight: 300;
}
.multi-column-dropdown {
list-style: none;
}
.multi-column-dropdown li a {
display: block;
clear: both;
line-height: 1.428571429;
color: #333;
white-space: normal;
}
.multi-column-dropdown li a:hover {
text-decoration: none;
color: #262626;
background-color: #f5f5f5;
}

@media (max-width: 767px) {
.dropdown-menu.multi-column {
min-width: 240px !important;
overflow-x: hidden;
}
}
</style>

And this modified class

class wp_bootstrap_navwalker extends Walker_Nav_Menu {

/**
* @see Walker::start_lvl()
* @since 3.0.0
*
* @param string $output Passed by reference. Used to append additional content.
