Making my blog PUBLIC WordPress

  • SOLVED

Hi,

I changed my wordpress.org blog to private while I was working on it. When someone types in my address it takes them to an "under construction" page. I can not for the life of me figure out how to make my blog public again. Please help!

Have you tried going to Settings->Privacy and selecting any of the radio buttons there?

karenorphey comments:

I have tried that. I think that's where I made the blog private in the first place but the only options I have there right now are

1. I would like my blog to be visible to everyone, including search engines (like Google, Bing, Technorati) and archivers.

2. I would like to block search engines, but allow normal visitors.

It is an installed wordpress.org blog not wordpress.com so I think the settings are a bit different, I just can't figure it out!

Buzu B comments:

would you mind giving access to the site? or maybe sending a copy of your wp installation?

I will do anything to fix the problem at this point! I'll set up a temporary password so you can get in and check it out, if you don't mind..:)

Please email me at [email protected] and I will give you info. Thanks!

I figured out the problem. It was a setting in the prophoto template rather than the wordpress settings. Thank you for your help! I'm sorry I only put up $4, I haven't used this site before and I didn't know what I was doing. I'll know next time!

First, figure out how did you made your blog private (htaccess, some plugin maybe), then follow your steps backward :). If you made changes to htaccess, reverse them. If you used some plugin, then go to its settings page and turn it off, or just delete the plugin from FTP.

Check to see if you have a .maintenance file in your WordPress directory. If this exists, remove it.

Did you use a maintenance plugin? If so login to your site via ftp and navigate your way to the WordPress plugins folder and delete the plugin.

karenorphey comments:

I haven't used any plugins. I think I just found an option to make it private for the time being and I selected it.

Under Settings >> Privacy

Choose

"Blog Visibility has three options which we’ll cover individually.

1. I would like my blog to be visible to everyone, including search engines (like Google, Bing, Technorati) and archivers – This is the setting used by most blogs. It lets everyone read your blog and allows your blog to be included in search engines and other content sites."
