I've asked a similar question before but this is confusing me.
I have just recreated a site on Wordpress that used to be on Joomla
My new Wordpress version http://baaswp.clearandcreative.info/
The Joomla version http://www.baas.ac.uk/
When I set the Wordpress live on the real domain http://www.baas.ac.uk/ I will need to set up 301 redirects to the new Wordpress permalinks.
This is straight forward when doing it from static html sites to Wordpress but the Joomla URLS look a bit tricky and I'm not sure of the best way to do this.
Example (the news page)
Example (the about page)
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I understand that i can either install a 301 redirect plugin or edit the .htaccess file (i may be wrong) but I would like understand it more fully.

If you have done the migration, you should now:
* Make the redirections: http://wordpress.org/plugins/redirection/
* With Google Webmaster Tools follow all steps here: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/83105?hl=en this is really important, your SEO can be lost

Hi Steve follow these steps.
1. Open the Google.com
and type: site:themefantasy.com ( in your part type site:your.com)
You can see the number of link crawl by Google.
Write it down in Excel file or directly implement on any wordpress 301 redirect plugin. Check link which are no longer exist and redirect them. ( A link which creating 404 error need to be redirected appropriate content )
for mine I usually use this plugin [[LINK href="https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/83105?hl=en"]]http://wordpress.org/plugins/redirection/screenshots/[[/LINK]]
Install the above plugin and implement.
After this open your Google webmaster and check for the 404 errors. Read this article too [[LINK href="https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/83105?hl=en."]]https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/83105?hl=en.[[/LINK]]
If you don't want to lose your SEO and keep maintain good health of your site in terms of seo, rank etc so try to do the above points.
Additionally install wordpress better wp security plugin in order to optimize 404 errors . This plugin will help you to retrieve the number of errors you are getting.
Even you can install the yoast wordpress plugin to remove the category slug from

I did a search for site: baas.ac.uk
Results showed only 7 indexed pages
see this screenshot http://screencast.com/t/N1qeGv1E
If that is the case I only need to redirect those seven pages. Is that correct?

Don't give the space, type like this
