We are closing down an old site that is using an old copy of Drupal (5.0) Can anyone point me to a good importer? Does anyone have a script that can import a lot of Drupal's data? Even a different importer script would be useful, to give me something to work with.

These guides should get you started: :-)
A straightforward guide
http://9seeds.com/news/drupal-to-wordpress-migration/
This is an old guide to import into wordpress 2.x. You could try that for the move and then upgrade the wordpress version to the latest.
http://www.mikesmullin.com/development/migrate-convert-import-drupal-5-to-wordpress-27/
For wordpress 3.x. the script attached should do the trick. With some tweaking from the first guide it should work very smooth.

http://modeling-languages.com/migrating-drupal-6-to-wordpress-3/
If you're looking for an automated task you should try this method but is for drupal 6. It could also work for drupal 5. It is based on Java.
For a automated professional move i recommend:

For a website up to 10 pages it's free.
