Gallery link to custom URL instead of file URL WordPress

I am trying to make my homepage slider images link to pages w/in the site instead of just the larger image. I am ok w/all gallery images having the option for a custom URL.

I would install the advanced custom fields plugin to make a url field or a page link field available on the portfolio post type [[LINK href="http://www.advancedcustomfields.com/"]]Advanced Custom Fields[[/LINK]]

If you look at the page here, there is a code example at the bottom of how you can integrate your new link into your template

The page link field type will only be good if you want to specify internal links, if you want to link to other websites I would just use the text field
