HOW TO FIX PASSWORD-RESET/&ERROR=INVALIDKEY

  • SOLVED

1) this error is encountered by people using my site:
they click lost password
2) they receive email with link
3) link is clicked
4) link goes back to reset password page (no box to fill in new password)

i have tried deactivating plugins and not a theme issue not a security issue
so i think this is a redirect issue because you go back to .com/password-reset&error=invalidkey

my wp-login.php is below:

<?php
/**
* WordPress User Page

* and other user handling.
*

}
}

Is your site in wpengine?
And
are you using woocommerce?

alphaseeker comments:

sorry what is wpengine? platform is wordpress and hosting is bluehost
yes using woocommerce

Rempty comments:

i though tha this problem only happened in wpengine
the problem happen because can't verify the wpnonce

OPen the file , woocommerce/includes/class-wc-form-handler.php

search
function class-wc-form-handler.php
and replace
if ( isset( $_POST['wc_reset_password'] ) && isset( $_POST['user_login'] ) && isset( $_POST['_wpnonce'] ) && wp_verify_nonce( $_POST['_wpnonce'], 'lost_password' ) ) {

with

if ( isset( $_POST['wc_reset_password'] ) && isset( $_POST['user_login'] ) && isset( $_POST['_wpnonce'] ) ) {

alphaseeker comments:

hi! i tried changing but it still returned this:

.com/password-reset&error=invalidkey

im referring to the login page itself, where as a subscriber of the website you can login, register or choose lost password

still didnt work.. pls assist

alphaseeker comments:

btw just added info:

as you can see in my wp-login.php code, the only time &error=invalidkey is mentioned is here in this part, so im not sure if this is correct, but didnt change this so this must be working:

if ( ! $user || is_wp_error( $user ) ) {
setcookie( $rp_cookie, ' ', time() - YEAR_IN_SECONDS, $rp_path, COOKIE_DOMAIN, is_ssl(), true );
if ( $user && $user->get_error_code() === 'expired_key' )
wp_redirect( site_url( 'wp-login.php?action=lostpassword&error=expiredkey' ) );
else
wp_redirect( site_url( 'wp-login.php?action=lostpassword&error=invalidkey' ) );
exit;
}

Rempty comments:

Do you edited the templates/myaccount/form-lost-password.php?

alphaseeker comments:

in my functions.php i have this:

setcookie(TEST_COOKIE, 'WP Cookie check', 0, COOKIEPATH, COOKIE_DOMAIN);
if ( SITECOOKIEPATH != COOKIEPATH ) setcookie(TEST_COOKIE, 'WP Cookie check', 0, SITECOOKIEPATH, COOKIE_DOMAIN);

in my wp-config i have this:

define('ADMIN_COOKIE_PATH', '/');
define('COOKIE_DOMAIN', '');
define('COOKIEPATH', '');
define('SITECOOKIEPATH', '');

just in case it helps as added info - i have experienced the "you must enable cookies" error that is why i put these two

alphaseeker comments:

hi! i have contacted host and they did this: turn off server cache
i dont mind giving still the prize for the help :)

the lost password is here:

<?php
/**
* Lost password form
*
* This template can be overridden by copying it to yourtheme/woocommerce/myaccount/form-lost-password.php.
*
* HOWEVER, on occasion WooCommerce will need to update template files and you
* (the theme developer) will need to copy the new files to your theme to
* maintain compatibility. We try to do this as little as possible, but it does
* happen. When this occurs the version of the template file will be bumped and
* the readme will list any important changes.
*
* @see https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/template-structure/
* @author WooThemes
* @package WooCommerce/Templates
* @version 2.6.0
*/

if ( ! defined( 'ABSPATH' ) ) {
exit;
}

wc_print_notices(); ?>

<form method="post" class="woocommerce-ResetPassword lost_reset_password">

<p><?php echo apply_filters( 'woocommerce_lost_password_message', __( 'Lost your password? Please enter your username or email address. You will receive a link to create a new password via email.', 'woocommerce' ) ); ?></p>
